Community Gardens

Open Space Greening has built or rejuvenated over 60 community gardens across New York City, and continues to work with schools, public housing associations, and community groups to transform vacant land into vibrant civic spaces that challenge communities to interact with each other.

New Yorkers can find out more information about our community gardens in the BronxBrooklyn, and Manhattan, read about our latest major projects, or search block by block for the closest green space on the OASIS map.

Each May since 1986, Open Space Greening's Annual Plant Sale has provided neighborhood greening projects with vegetables, herbs, flowers, and bedding plants at wholesale prices.  Last year, over 130 community groups picked up plants grown by three Greenmarket farmers.  Want to be notified about the 2011 Plant Sale? Any New Yorker interested in putting together a community beautification project can apply to have a free tool loan delivered via our Grow Truck program.
