Founded in 1989, Grand Army Plaza is Greenmarket's flagship Brooklyn market, and the second largest market in the program, behind Union Square. Located at the northwest entrance to beautiful Prospect Park— and just steps from the Brooklyn Public Library, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This community destination brings together a mix of shoppers from the nearby neighborhoods of Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, and beyond. Runners, dog-walkers, families, singles and foodies all converge to buy from the huge array of farm fresh products, and to participate in the programming and cooking demonstrations that take place every Saturday all year long.

Managers

Heather Rubi moved from fighting Wyoming wildfires and working with Greenpeace to join the farmer-loving crew of Greenmarket. As a Minnesota native, she spent summers working on her family's farm, and can drive a tractor and chop wood with the best of them. Heather hopes that the insight and experience gained here at Greenmarket will help her one day run her own farm in the North Woods.

Sam Blatteis hails from Oakland, California, where she enjoyed the abundance of figs and meyer lemons, until moving to Washington, DC to study Culture and Politics at Georgetown University. Wanting to learn how to raise her own food, she left the city and traveled to New Zealand and then Maine to work with livestock and vegetables. Since moving Brooklyn, she's enjoyed working with farmers and learning about sustainable agriculture in the Northeast.

Anthony Reuter is a Brooklyn transplant from Wisconsin and Minnesota who moved here to pursue his urban agriculture and anti-hunger interests. He is a former AmeriCorps VISTA with the New York City Coalition Against Hunger who now spends his time coordinating the Hell's Kitchen Farm Project and its sister CSA project while managing Greenmarkets and swiping EBT cards. In his spare time he likes to hang out in his backyard, grow his food, and concoct new ways to organize the world. You can find him at Borough Park Greenmarket, swiping EBT cards at Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket, and on the roof farming in Hell's Kitchen.
