Greenmarket's Technical Assistance Program
FARMroots provides both aspiring and established Greenmarket farmers with business technical assistance and training designed to ensure the long-term viability of participating farms and farmland. Technical assistance is provided through both in-house services and through the engagement of cost-shared consultants.
History
FARMroots was founded as a direct response to the wide range of technical assistance needs identified by Greenmarket producers in the Farmers on the Edge report, co-published with the Open Space Institute and with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. As a technical assistance project FARMroots’ was a natural extension of our existing New Farmer Development Project, which supported aspiring immigrant farmers to start their own farm businesses. The two programs joined under the FARMroots name in 2012.
Project Services
FARMroots offers a wide range of Beginning Farmer programming, as well as Technical Assistance support for established producers in the following key areas:
• Farm Succession and Land Transfer
• Financial and Business Planning
• Legal Assistance
• Strategic Marketing
• Access to Capital
• Food Safety and Risk Management
Project Eligibility
Our program is open to all producers that sell through the Greenmarket Farmers Market system or through Greenmarket Co wholesale. Please contact Gabriela Pereyra, Program Coordinator, for more information at gpereyra@grownyc.org
