Summer Greenmarket Challenge & Summer Shopper Loyalty Cards
Take the Greenmarket Summer Challenge! #gmktsummerchallenge
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it: Celebrate summer, support Greenmarket farmers and farm businesses, and enjoy the freshest flavors of the season.
Each week across GrowNYC Instagram channels, we will post a Greenmarket ingredient that is in peak abundance and freshness. Cook a dish with that market ingredient and tag us on Instagram using #gmktsummerchallenge or send in a submission for a chance to win. Each week we will re-post photos of finished dishes and choose a winner who will receive a market tote. Submissions are due by noon on Saturday!
Week of August 18 - Melons
And just like that, we are in our second to last Greenmarket Summer Challenge week. It’s been a long, hot summer and y’all deserve a treat. Enter MELON WEEK! What better way to cool off in August than with a hydrating fruit like melon?! And is it even summer if you haven’t chowed down on a cold watermelon? Of course, don’t limit yourself to just watermelon. The beauty of shopping for melons at Greenmarket is the variety. Fun fact: our farmers grow 139 different varieties of melons! Cantaloupe, honeydew, red, yellow, and orange watermelon, snow leopard, canary, Korean melon… just to name a few. We’ll even accept cucamelon and bitter melon submissions (they’re in the melon fam 😉)! Make a melon granita (inspired by our friends at @caffepanna 🥰), pickle or kimchi the rind, whip up a summery melon salad loaded with herbs and goat cheese, or make a agua fresca de melón. The options are endless—and delicious—and we can’t wait to see how you show off our late summer beauties.
A quick refresh on how it works:
🍉 Shop for melons at a Greenmarket near you!
🍉 Make a recipe and snap a pic!
🍉 Submit it to us by 12pm on Saturday, August 23! You can DM us, post using #gmktsummerchallenge, or submit via the form linked in our bio.
Each week, at least one (or sometimes two or three) contestants will be selected to win a Greenmarket tote! Show us your creativity, try a new melon variety or recipe, and let us what you’re working with!
Whether you're a seasoned market-goer or a first-timer, this is your chance to eat well, shop local, and connect with your community this summer.
