Our network of farmers markets, Youthmarkets, Fresh Food Box pick-ups, and Greenmarket Co. ensures that all New Yorkers have access to the freshest, healthiest local food.
What We Accept:
Clean and dry clothing, paired shoes, linens, handbags, belts, and other reusable textiles. No fabric rolls or scraps of any size, rugs, carpeting, pillows, comforters, or luggage. Your contribution to the program is tax deductible.
What happens to materials donated?
Textiles are accepted by Wearable Collections and taken to a facility where they are sorted into different grades, with an effort to recover as much usable clothing as possible for distribution to second-hand markets. Material that is not suitable for reuse will go to recycling markets to be used as wiping rags or shredded for low grade fiber products such as insulation.
Why can’t I recycle scraps?
Due to a shift in market conditions, Wearable Collections is unable to accept large volumes of scraps for processing. Your quality donations ensure the sustainability of the textile recycling program, which recovers the portion of non-reusable material for secondary uses.

5.4 Million lbs Collected Since 2007
The average New Yorker tosses 46 pounds of clothing and other textiles in the trash each year. All told, NYC residents discard nearly 200,000 tons of textiles every year, at a cost to taxpayers and our environment.
Textiles can be dropped off weekly at the following locations. Please visit our recycling events page to find special one-day collections.
In cases of severe weather, markets may close early or be cancelled. Please drop early and check our blog or follow us on social media for schedule updates.
