While the checkered tablecloth and box of sparklers are critical, the real key to an exceptional Fourth of July celebration is decidedly the food.

To make sure that your holiday is spectacular, please take note: no Greenmarkets will be open on Tuesday, July 4th (farmers like to party, too!), but it’s business as usual on the days preceding Independence Day. Here’s a list of markets open the weekend before July 4th, by borough:

Saturday, July 1st, in Brooklyn: Brooklyn Borough Hall, Ft. Greene Park, Grand Army Plaza, McCarren Park, Bay Ridge, Sunset Park
Saturday, July 1st, in Staten Island: St. George, Staten Island Mall
Saturday, July 1st, in Manhattan: 57th St., 82nd St., Inwood, Abingdon, Tucker, Union Square, Sugar Hill
Saturday, July 1st, in Queens: Sunnyside

Sunday, July 2nd, in Brooklyn: Cortelyou, Bartel Prichard, Bensonhurst, Carroll Gardens, Parkside Plaza
Sunday, July 2nd, in Manhattan: 79th Street, Tompkins Square, Stuyvesant, 92nd St., Columbia University
Sunday, July 2nd, in Queens: Jackson Heights, Forest Hills

Tuesday, July 4th: All Tuesday markets CLOSED for the holiday
Find out details about each market at Our Markets.

Stock up on all types of stone fruit and berries; sustainabily-raised meat; cheeses, onions, tomatoes, pickles, and buns for those burgers; tons of fresh veggies; and heavy cream for the whipped cream. Do not forget the whipped cream!
