GrowNYC is updating its database of community gardens, updating the community garden layer on OASIS, and analyzing the various roles that community gardens play all at once through a new questionnaire. Keeping a database of all of the city's community gardens and working to understand how people use them, what they grow, and how they contribute to the fabric of the community will help us portray them accurately and better serve their needs.
We're doing this through an online questionnaire this year, and it should take about 20-30 minutes to complete.
Take the online survey here.
We would like all gardens to fill this out, regardless of whether they have been mapped on OASIS before. Gardens that have not been mapped previously will have that opportunity now. The kind of information posted on the OASIS website will remain essentially the same- only the basics - hours, address, etc. Contact information will not be posted, and questions will still be directed to GrowNYC and GreenThumb. This sort of data collection will, however, be absolutely critical in moving forward with the future of community gardens in NYC. Please help us by filling out the questionnaire completely and accurately, only one time per garden, and please spread word that this is going on. We need all the help we can get to involve as many gardens as we can!
If there are any gardens/gardeners that are uncomfortable with filling out a questionnaire online, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
