Day-to-day OROE staff meets with representatives from our targeted communities, participates in public events and provides information on recycling, reuse, waste prevention, and composting. Sometimes, however, we take on large-scale, citywide events and campaigns to promote recycling to a broader range of New York City residents. OROE, along with a host of vital national partners, initiated a focus on New York City within a national campaign to raise the awareness of magazine recycling titled “REcycling Magazines Is EXcellent [REMIX].” This campaign intends to emphasize the ease and convenience of recycling magazines in New York City as well as encourage New Yorkers to recycle all the various “mixed paper” designated recyclables in New York City such as cereal boxes and junk mail. The recycling game is a resounding success as a tool to make recycling both easy-to-understand and fun. OROE conducted a recycling workshop for over fifty senior citizens at the Mott Haven Senior Center in the Bronx and it was covered by and aired on WNYC as a local feature of NPR's All Things Considered. Part of our message is that ANY age is the right age to learn more about how you can change your environment and world for the better. Please click here to listen.
