Post-Holiday Stop N’ Swaps

As the holiday season winds down and you look to clean out some clutter, plan to attend a Stop N’ Swap near you! GrowNYC will host events in communities throughout the five boroughs. Attend one or all and bring any reusable, portable items to share with others.

Save the Date!
Sunday, January 24th, at the Hebrew Tabernacle in Washington Heights
551 Fort Washington Avenue and 185th Street

More information and additional Stop N' Swaps will be posted at www.GrowNYC.org/swap.

Battery Recycling

Rechargeable Battery Recycling now at Greenmarkets

In mid-November GrowNYC expanded its recycling efforts by adding cell phone and rechargeable battery collections to 8 Greenmarkets. In cooperation with the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) , select farmers markets now accept rechargeable batteries, such as those commonly found in cellular and cordless phones, laptops, cordless power tools, and other portable electronics. Since December 2006 New York City law has required that residents recycle rechargeable batteries and now it’s even easier to add this to your green routine when shopping for locally grown produce, dropping off compost or recycling textiles at some of GrowNYC’s markets. GrowNYC's OFFICE OF RECYCLING OUTREACH & EDUCATION (OROE) works to improve the City's recycling rate by educating residents about recycling and waste prevention, and working with landlords to make sure building recycling programs are adequate. Our free services include apartment building recycling audits, trainings for tenants and supers, community events centered on education and special collection programs for textiles, electronics, and compost. OROE's current intensive efforts target one-quarter of New York City's residents. Our five borough-wide coordinators work on a community-by-community basis to identify and address the specific challenges to recycling within a Community District.
