This Rainwater Harvesting System was built as a roof over an existing stage. The galvanized steel roof and wood structure replaced the existing roof that was in need of repair. The 150 square foot roof drains into a green polyethylene 343 gallon tank. The overflow is directed to 2 - 55 gallon recycled olive barrels. Rainwater is filtered using a Rainkeeper Downspout Collection Filter. The system was built with the assistance of Green Apple Corps members, community gardeners and volunteers under the supervision of GrowNYC staff. Based on an average rainfall of 34 inches during the season from March 1 to Oct 31 and .5 gallons of rain collected per square foot of roof area, we estimate having the potential to collect 2550 gallons for the season from 150 sq ft of roof collecting area.
