Apples on Orchard Street!

The Lower East Side turns the "Big Apple" green with its first annual New York City Apple Day and the Go Green Lower East Side kick off this Sunday, October 19th from 11:00am through 4:30pm. Produced by the Lower East Side Business Improvement District (LES BID) and Greenmarket, New York City Apple Day is a free, fun street festival on Orchard Street between Broom and Grand which was the Delancey Apple Orchard in the mid 1700s.

Apple Day will feature an apple cider press, face painting, arts-and-crafts, historical neighborhood walking tours and, of course, samples of everything from apples to apple bread to chicken apple sausage to chocolate apple truffles! Rabbai Stone from the Chabad of the Lower East Side will be present to celebrate the harvest holiday of Sukkot with an apple and honey tent.

This event is also the kickoff event for Go Green Lower East Side, an initiative of Manhattan Borough President, Scott M. Stringer. Festival-goers will be able to take home free energy saving light bulbs, t-shirts, tips and information on how to live a more eco-conscious lifestyle.
