Greenmarket Staff is headed to Farm Camp!  Starting Sunday, the Greenmarket staff will be spending two days in the Battenkill River Valley visiting a local processing facility, milk bottling plant, maple syrup production, cheese making operation, all the while learning about everything from heritage breed pigs to farmland protection efforts in the Northeast.

Hosted by Flying Pigs Farm, Farm Camp was designed for and by food professionals. It is the only program of its kind created to bring the participant a wide-ranging, food-focused, exploration of our regional food system. Farm Camp aims to expose the NYC food professional to a broad range of agriculture issues that affect not just how and what we eat but also the future of our food system and rural landscape.

We hope to fill our heads with all sorts of valuable information to bring back to you, our equally eager-for-more customers. We'll be tweeting the whole time so follow us to hear all the details at UnSqGreenmarket or GAPGreenmarket.
Upcoming Events
Gourmet Latino Festival
June 4th-12th
Astor Center, 399 Lafayette Street (at E 4th St)

Over 30 chefs, mixologists, wine experts and authors come together for the first-ever socially conscious celebration of Latin gastronomy and culture. Don't miss the Opening Cocktail Party, Daytime Feast, a celebration of culinary traditions and the power of women seminar with Chef Zarela Martinez, and much more.

The Gourmet Latino Festival will benefit Greenmarket/GrowNYC's New Farmer Development Project: identifying, educating, and supporting immigrants with agricultural experience by helping them become local farmers and establish small farms in the region.

Union Square Seafood Throwdown
Saturday, June 5th
Noon-2pm
Union Square Greenmarket, 15th Street & Union Square West

Join Spurse, Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance (NAMA), Whitney Museum of American Art, and Greenmarket/GrowNYC for a Seafood Throwdown.  Artists Petia Morozov and Iain Kerr face off against Color's Restaurant chef, Teresa Montano, in a Greenmarket-inspired seafood cook-off, hosted by Jimmy Carbone of Jimmy's #43

In an effort to raise awareness about the ecological and economic importance of locally caught seafood and their efforts to rebuild commercial fisheries and protect the marine environment, NAMA is encouraging Greenmarket customers to think not only about how far that tomato traveled to get their plate, but the flounder, squid, and clams also.

Come watch the action on Saturday and taste for yourself the freshness of our fresh, local catch!
