Mobile Textile Lab comes to Union Square

Textile Arts Center recently visited the Union Square Greenmarket to securely stitch up the hand-crafted tote bags while The Textile Lab demonstrated how to create dyes using various plants available at the Greenmarket. GrowNYC’s Office of Recycling Outreach and Education showed participants how to transform their tees while providing answers to tough questions on how to recycle plastics and electronics.

Many first-timers came by to help “close the loop” by dropping off food scraps for composting with the Lower East Side Ecology Center and textiles for reuse and recycling with Wearable Collections, both of which are services available at Union Square every Saturday.
