Nov 9, 2010: BRONX JOINS MILLION POUND CHALLENGE
A local initiative to keep used clothing and other materials out of landfills is creeping closer to its goal. The Bronx is the latest borough to join GrowNYC’s Million Pound Challenge, which calls on New Yorkers to bring unwanted or worn out garments to one of 8 weekly drop-off sites. Instead of going to waste, materials are sorted and redistributed to secondhand clothing markets, rag makers and fiber recyclers
Jun 2, 2010: Green Teens Design for the Future
At the Spring Energy Fair sponsored by Con Edison, Greenmarket shoppers and Union Square visitors stopped and asked students about alternative energy forms and their green designs. Students did cooking demos with their pizza box solar ovens and showed Union Square visitors walking by green home designs and sustainable streetscape models, talking about how the application of solar energy can potentially mitigate environmental impact and improve the health of the city.
