Annual Report 2013 | Overview

osg overview

Gardens hard hit by Sandy are back online, growing fruits and vegetables and community thanks to GrowNYC’s repair. 500 gardens, block associations, churches and more have full garden beds thanks to GrowNYC’s Annual Plant Sale. Residents living in areas with limited access to healthy food options and with higher rates of diet related disease will see an increase in spaces for gardening. GrowNYC has built or rejuvenated over 70 community gardens across New York City, and continues to work with schools, public housing associations, and community groups to transform vacant land into vibrant civic spaces for growing food, getting exercise and fresh air, enjoying nature, talking with neighbors and so much more.

Neighborhood organizing, participatory design workshops, building garden beds, tools sheds, rainwater collection systems were all just a part of projects GrowNYC staff dug into during 2013.
