About the Office of Recycling Outreach & Education (OROE)

OROE works to increase participation in New York City’s curbside recycling program using a grassroots, community-by-community strategy. Our borough-wide coordinators work to identify the specific challenges to recycling in a neighborhood and address those needs with targeted workshops for tenants and supers, community events centered on education, and special collection programs for textiles, electronics, and compost.

OROE was created in 2006 when the City Council passed Mayor Bloomberg’s landmark Solid Waste Management Plan.

Last month OROE took part in the GetGreen: South Bronx Earth Fest. This third-annual intergenerational event celebrates our environment and the South Bronx community. The Earth Fest helps raise awareness on many sustainability issues and includes information and activities on recycling, reuse and other green initiatives.
