Kristina's unbounded love for vegetables led her to begin cooking at the local general store in high school, then to running a small cafe in Vermont, and eventually to the study of food and culture. (Ask her about vegetarian cookbooks of the 1970s—but only if you have the time to spare!) Now a recent college graduate with a degree in anthropology, Kristina is excited about merging her interests in rural-urban food systems, being surrounded by mountains of fresh produce, spending some much-needed time outside of the library, and supporting regional farms and NYC communities with Greenmarket.
Luz Portillo is a native New Yorker who has lived in Manhattan for most of her life. She went to Dickinson College where she received a degree in Environmental Studies. While in college she took a course on organic farming techniques while doing an internship at the schools organic garden. Her concentration was in looking at urban areas in an environmental light. Luz feels that Greenmarket merges her interest in urban spaces and organic gardening in a wonderful way.
